This week the Melba Hall at the University of Melbourne will see the world premiere of Matthew Deweys Three Tuba Miniatures. The concert, which forms part of Faculty of Music Free Monday Lunch Hour Concert Series features leading Australian brass figures Brendon Lukin (Tuba and Organ) and Yoram Levy (Trumpet) together with Stefan Cassomenos (piano) in a varied program of new music and avant-garde music from the 20th century. Matthew Dewey will be lecturing in composition at the University of Tasmania Conservatorium of Music for the second semester of 2008. The move comes as current dean of school and head of composition Professor Douglas Knehans moves to accept a new position as Dean of the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Dewey will lecture in composition and lead the analysis seminar – supervising undergraduate composers in their studies.
