On Monday the 22nd of June Matthew will leave his home city of Hobart Tasmania, in order to travel to Moscow to attend the premiere recordings of his 1st Symphony and the newly composed Suite for Orchestra. The works are to be recorded by the critically acclaimed Russian Philharmonic Orchestra at the Moscow Radio House Studio in late June.
The symphony, in three movements, was inspired by Tom Holloway’s play ‘Beyond the Neck’ which explores the lives of four characters who had all been affected in profoundly different ways by the Port Arthur massacre of 1996. The work was originally commissioned by Damien Holloway and was premièred at the Hobart Town Hall by the Hobart Chamber Orchestra in May of 2008.
The suite, also in three movements, was written especially for the recordings.
